I’ve just returned from a trip to Malaysia to renew my visa for my work in Sumatra. It happens every 6 months or so and is usually a 3-4 day trip. This time I decided to take a few days while my visa was processing and headed to Malacca (Melaka) to see the sights and learn about the history of the area. In the maritime museum is a replica of the Flor de la Mar. The Flor de la Mar was one of the biggest ships to serve in the 1500’s and was lost at sea off the north east coast of Sumatra in 1511 with what is arguably the richest payload to sink in history. The replica is stunning and the insides have been converted into a fantastic museum piece. For more details on the Flor de la Mar visit the wiki.
