Since living in Bengkulu I have become close with the orphans of Zam Zam, spending time with them and providing them with things they need through the help of great friends and great support from around the world. Yesterday I paid them a visit to deliver more goodies only to find a new orphan named Siti Hawa had arrived at the orphanage. Siti was placed in the care of the orphanage recently because of issues with tumors on her leg and on her foot. After she was born her father realised she was not a healthy baby and decided to leave never to return, while the mother who has another child cannot afford to look after both of the children herself and afford the medical help required for Siti, so she needs to work every day.
Siti has had one small tumor removed from her ankle area as you can see the bandage in the photos but still has a much larger tumor on her foot to have removed. I have decided to start a new small cause for Siti to help fund the operation for the remaining tumor on her foot. See my project Berdiri for details and how to support. Hopefully Siti can get the operation that she needs and live a healthy and normal life.
On a related side note: Over Population – There is a huge issue with the over population of Indonesia and the lack of education for families when it comes to having children. Families nowadays are having too many children and what’s more they cannot afford to properly feed and have them educated. It’s a big issue that needs a even bigger and swift solution to combat the compounding effect the population growth will have in the years to come.
