“Only around 250 adult Siamese crocodiles remain in the wild, chiefly in the remotest highlands of Cambodia, particularly in the south-western Cardamom Mountains – FFI“

March 11 marks another international journey. On this trip I am accompanying the Australia Zoo Rescue Unit to Cambodia. The goal for the Australia Zoo Rescue Unit is to relocate critically endangered Siamese Crocodiles from a remote area in the highlands of Cambodia. Unfortunately due to large scale hydro-power dam developments the Siamese Crocodiles habitat and nesting grounds are under threat, and with only 250 left in the wild this is certainly a critical mission.

When I heard that this rescue mission wasn’t going to be documented in any way I decided without hesitation to offer my services and pay my own way to accompany the Australia Zoo Rescue Unit to document this, raise awareness for the Siamese Crocodiles in the hope of saving them from extinction and share the great work that the Australia Zoo Rescue Unit do internationally.

While in Cambodia I will be posting updates through my Twitter account and to the Australia Zoo Rescue Unit Twitter account and the Facebook Fan Page. We will also have a focus on this conservation project through the Australia Zoo website so keep an eye out for that in the coming days to follow along and kindly donate if you can so this amazing crew can continue to be Wildlife Warriors.

Photo Tools Used for the above photo
iPhone 4
The iPhone 4 camera is a huge improvement on the previous iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 4 camera specs are:

5.0 Mpixels (2592 x 1936)

1/3.2″ back-illuminated CMOS sensor

4:3 aspect ratio

35 mm film camera crop factor: 7.64

Low ISO 80 (or better)

3.85 mm lens focal length

f/2.8 lens aperture

Autofocus: tap to focus

With the camera improvement and screen improvement, iPhone 4 photos just seem to pop. Amazing clarity.

It’s been a long time project working on Australia Zoo TV. Building this project from scratch, managing all aspects and regularly filming the Rescue Unit rescues from koalas, to snakes and even sharks. There have been many rewarding moments throughout this project, but one of the most rewarding moments came this week when the Rescue Unit podcast was awarded FEATURED status on iTunes and reached #1 for it’s category as the most downloaded podcast. Check out the podcast here. I hope to continue with this project, delivering online streaming videos and always improving on the content delivery to continue the popularity of the Rescue Unit podcasts.
