Help Portrait Update
Posted by Brusca under Nikon D90, Photography
Help Portrait on Dec 12 was an eye opening experience. Photographing the homeless and meeting these people was a bitter sweet experience. It felt good though, to give back (as little as it was) and provide a smile and some happiness this time of year. Official Post-Event Press Release.
Thanks to David and Conrad (pictured below) for their help on December 12. I would not have done this by myself. It’s great to meet new people with as much passion as I have for creating content. Look forward to more Help Portraits with the both of you in the future.

Help Portrait
Posted by Brusca under Nikon D90, Photography

Here is a chance to give back this holiday season. Help Portrait is a movement of photographers from around the world who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate this holiday season.
- Find someone in need
- Take their portrait
- Print their portrait
- and deliver them
From amateur photographers like me right through to professionals, December 12 is the time to give back. I love this cause and think it is a great vehicle to make a difference in the world. Things haven’t been that great with the GFC so there are a lot of people who need a lift. Rather than asking for the usual cash donation to help the needy this is a great way of instilling confidence back into people who have been on the wrong side of luck lately.
On December 12 I will be setting up next to Vital Connection (a soup kitchen that provide food for the homeless) at Emma Miller Place, Roma Street, Brisbane QLD and taking portraits for the homeless, and either printing them on the spot, or printing them to deliver in the following days. I would love to have a hand or two so if you are in the Brisbane area on December 12, don’t be shy and contact me via Twitter, www.twitter.com/brusca. There are also some great people to connect with through the Brisbane Help Portrait Group, so if you can’t make it to Roma Street you may be able to help out elsewhere.

Sunrise Time Lapse at Dicky Beach (Nikon D90)

Sunrise Time Lapse (Nikon D90) from Bruce Levick on Vimeo.
This sunrise at Dicky Beach Ship Wreck in Caloundra, Qld, Australia was taken with a Nikon D90. One photo every 7 seconds. I think the next one I will make it a shorter time frame between photos. That would make for a smoother looking motion. I have a few more time lapse videos I am putting together, so keep an eye out for them. :0)

Sunset with Cokin Filters
Posted by Brusca under Nikon D90, Photography
I am on a steep learning curve when it comes to DSLR Photography. Part of that and understanding the tricks and techniques is learning to use filters at the location. These two shots are experimental shots taken from the coast looking back onto Caloundra (where I will be relocating to shortly). Hard to believe these two shots were from the same location and only 30 minutes apart. Lrger versions of these photos can be seen on my Flickr account.

Caloundra from the beach. Taken with a Cokin Grey G2 ND8 (A121) Filter and polarizer. 50mm Nikkor.

Trade Secret Cards
Posted by Brusca under Design, Nikon D90, Photography
A few weeks back I read a blog entry from Chase Jarvis, about new business size cards for sale. But not any old cards, they are Trade Secret cards. One side shows a photo and the backside of the card explains how the shot was made. Turns out Chase is giving all the profits they make back into the photographic community. Pretty awesome I thought. So I didn’t hesitate, these cards are gold and I even picked up a similar pack from Strobist.

Motivational Video
Posted by Brusca under Nikon D90, Photography, Social Networking, Video
If you’re struggling for a bit of motivation or recently experienced a failure, then this video will surely get you back on your feet. Just goes to show, even the best fail before they succeed. If you’ve never failed, you’ve never lived. Life = Risk.

Dave Hill Style Photography
Posted by Brusca under Nikon D90, Photography
I am a big fan of Dave Hill and his style of photography. The way he tells a story with photography is simply amazing. Inspired by his style and his behind the scenes footage (http://www.davehillphoto.com/bts/) I made an attempt to process one of my regular photos of my nephew last Christmas into a similar style using Camera Raw with Photoshop. See the results below.

Exposure on Gecko Camera Mount
Posted by Brusca under Design, Nikon D90
This one very cool little tool. A Delkin Gecko Camera mount. Specs are here.
I have tried this mount inside and outside the car and at first I was a bit paranoid about the strength of the suction pads. But with the Nikon D90 and the Sony Handy Cam this tool was perfect. As long as the surface you are attaching to is clean and smooth this camera mount will hold like there is no tomorrow.
Here is also some footage I captured in the Maleny area with the mount on the outside of the car. http://www.flickr.com/photos/brusca/3915167295/.
I’m looking forward to capturing more images and footage in the near future to share with you all. Current set from the camera mount is here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/brusca/sets/72157622416062342/.
