Decided to spend some time in West Sumatra before heading out for my next assignment in Aceh. It’s a great place to experience the culture in the villages that surround Mt Marapi. I would say it’s peaceful and it os for the most part but this month is Ramadan and the mosques are very active around the clock with their loud speakers. Takes a bit of getting used to. The height and the coldish temperatures remind of my time in the Southern alps of New Zealand and ski fields of Australia. Nice and refreshing, especially the cold bucket showers. Coldest in Sumatra, I can be sure of that. The rice fields and vegetable fields are individually owned or part of the family land and truly signifies living off the land in this part of the world. There is not a lot of commercialised selling in this area, which is so fresh and nice to escape to the grass roots of living.
